We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and that you’re all ready to jump back in to some tastings!  Join us this upcoming Thursday, December 5th, for a tasting of Holiday seasonals.  As we close in on Christmas these winter warmers will help you get into the spirit of the season and fight off the winter chill.

You’ll also want to mark your calendars for the following Friday, December 13th, for our takeover featuring Railhouse Brewing from Aberdeen, NC.  We’ll have a selection of both bottles and draft, as well as a representative from the brewery here with some swag to give away.

This week brought us two special releases from Stone for fans of a little heat.  Crime and Punishment are two Bastards that have been brewed with a selection of peppers and bourbon barrel aged.  According to Stone‘s blog, the following peppers were used:  “Yellow & Red 7 Pot, Yellow & Red 7 Pot Douglah, 7 Pot Jonah, Red Scorpion, Black Naga, Green & Red Jalapeño, Red & Peach Moruga Scorpion, Chocolate Douglah, Ghost, Giant White Habanero, Habanero, Caribbean Red Hot, Fatali, Peach Ghost Scorpion, Yellow Moruga and various other hybrids.”  If you think you’re up to the challenge and prepared for the heat, check these special releases out while they’re still here.

Thomas Creek has been on a roll with new introductions to their bottled lineup and this week marks the arrival of their new Coffee Oatmeal Stout.  This creamy Oatmeal Stout features a locally roasted coffee blend picked by the brewers to create a perfect treat for the colder weather.  If you’re a coffee fan, pick up this new offering and let us know what you think.

We’re excited to be able to help fill your beer needs now and in the future.  If you’ve got any beer suggestions or ideas, or any feedback, we would love to hear it!  Keep an eye out for more emails in the future with updates about events, new beers, new kegs, and more!  If you’d like daily updates and information about kegs as they’re tapped, make sure to like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

Thanks again,

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Stout tasting this past Thursday!  The weather is getting colder and we hope someone found a new favorite for the season.  We featured a little something for everyone in terms of different flavors, including the surprisingly tart Bell’s Cherry Stout.

We’ll be open short hours on Thanksgiving for your emergency beer needs – drop by between 11 AM and 3 PM if you need something!  There won’t be a tasting this upcoming week due to Thanksgiving.  We hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday and will be ready to get tastings going the following Thursday, December 5th.  You’ll also want to mark your calendars for Friday, December 13th, because Railhouse Brewing from Aberdeen, NC will be here for a tasting event!

This week brought us a lot of returning favorites, both seasonal and otherwise.  If you’re an IPA fan, we’ve received a little bit of Coast HopArt from Charleston.  Coast is a small operation that has spearheaded a lot of beer movements in South Carolina, including Pop The Cap in 2005.  HopArt features Cascade, Centennial, Nugget, and Mt. Hood Hops, along with Organic Malts.  Samuel Adams Merry Maker is a Gingerbread Stout that was previously known as Merry Mischief.  If you’re looking for something to try as a holiday desert, this delicious, smooth Stout features holiday spices and the taste and aroma of gingerbread.

Thanks to everyone that joined us for Vanberg & DeWulf‘s Third Coast-to-Coast Toast this past Thursday!  They import a lot of fantastic labels from around the world and our selection would be far less without them.  Birra Amiata‘s Contessa Pale Ale from Italy was one of the standouts from the event and would make a great treat for someone interested in seeing what other countries have to offer.

Join us this upcoming Thursday, November 21st, from 5-7 PM for a free tasting of four different stouts!  As the cold weather continues to approach, we thought now would be a great time to introduce people to some of our new and favorite Stouts.  To make sure we cover a wide range of Stout styles, we’ve selected Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, Founders Breakfast Stout, Bell’s Cherry Stout, and Oskar Blues Ten Fidy (now brewed in Brevard, NC).

Winter seasonals are continuing to arrive in full force and we’ve managed to get our hands on a few labels that were unavailable last year.  Imperial Russian Stouts are the perfect brew to help keep you warm as the temperature drops and this week brought two fantastic choices – Brooklyn‘s Black Chocolate Stout, and Avery‘s The Czar.  Both of these stouts are higher in ABV and full of wonderful chocolate and dark fruit flavors.  Imperial Russian Stouts also mature very well and would make for good vertical tastings in the coming years.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our West Coast IPA tasting this past Thursday!  West Coast IPAs are a very popular style, but can be intimidating because of their tendency to be extremely hoppy.  Some people tend to avoid them as a result and we hoped to introduce them to a few classics and try to broaden horizons while offering some fan favorites.  We saw both returning and new faces, and hope the new evening choice will continue to work out for everyone.

Join us this upcoming Thursday, November 14th, from 5-7 PM for Vanberg & DeWulf’s 3rd Coast-to-Coast Toast!  Vanberg & DeWulf imports fantastic brews from all over the world and we’ve brought in a great selection to help them celebrate their anniversary.  Drop in any time during the two hour tasting window and enjoy ales from Belgium and Italy across a wide variety of styles.

With the cold weather coming and Friday, November 8th, being Stout Day we thought this would be a great weekend to tap a keg of Stone‘s Espresso Imperial Russian Stout.  This was one of their “odd year releases” for 2013 that gave their classic Imperial Russian Stout an extra kick.  This week marked the return of Founders Backwoods Bastard, a bourbon barrel aged Scotch Ale, that’s also a perfect sipper for the incoming cold.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our pre-Halloween “Ghouls and Ghosts” tasting this past Wednesday!  Our selections were greatly varied and response was generally positive, though a few found the mead a little too sweet for their tastes.  We hope everyone enjoyed trying something different.

We’ve had several people mention that Wednesday evenings are a poor night for them, so we’re going to temporarily move our tastings to Thursdays from 5-7 PM.  Join us this upcoming Thursday, November 7th, for a west coast IPA tasting.  It has been a while since our last IPA tasting and we wanted to take this chance to go through a few classics.

On November 14th, join us from 5-7 PM for Vanberg & DeWulf’s third Coast-to-Coast Toast.  This nationwide tasting event is a celebration of wonderful Belgian ales and the birthday of Vanberg & DeWulf.  If you’re looking for an introduction into Belgian beer or are a seasoned pro, this’ll be an event you won’t want to miss.

This week brought us several fantastic new arrivals, including a few returning labels that have been greatly missed.  Bell’s Stout series has two returning labels, Java and Expedition, as well as two new arrivals with the Cherry and Double Cream.  This is the first time Cherry Stout has been brewed in several years due to bad cherry crops.  We’ve also received Dogfish Head‘s newest ancient ale, Kvasir.  Kvasir is a “tart red winter wheat” in the style of a revived hybrid grog.  Along with Kvasir, this week also marked the return of Midas Touch.
