Thanks to everyone who joined us for our wet hopped ale tasting this past Thursday!  Several breweries took advantage of the recent hop harvest and brought out these delicious, hoppy creations.  Victory‘s Harvest Ale was one of the most popular of the evening with its unique hop profile and aroma.

Due to the holidays, there won’t be a tasting this upcoming Thursday.  Instead, join us on Friday, December 5th, from 5-7 PM as we welcome Columbia’s River Rat Brewery to the store! We’ve been huge fans of theirs since they opened and are excited to have them stop by.  Join us, their brewmaster, and their owner for a sample flight of what they’re brewing up.  We hope you’ll help us pack the house for this great South Carolina brewery!

With Thanksgiving this upcoming week, our hours for Thursday, November 27th, will be shorter than usual.  In case you need some last minute emergency beer, we’ll be open 11 AM – 3 PM.  The rest of the week will be unaffected, so stop in and see us!

We’re excited to be able to help fill your beer needs now and in the future.  If you’ve got any beer suggestions or ideas, or any feedback, we would love to hear it!  Keep an eye out for more emails in the future with updates about events, new beers, new kegs, and more!  If you’d like daily updates and information about kegs as they’re tapped, make sure to like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

Thanks again,

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Movember / No Shave November tasting this past ThursdayHoly City‘s Chucktown Follicle Brown came out of the gate swinging, pleasing even the pickiest of drinkers.

Join us this upcoming Thursday, November 20th, from 5-7 PM for a wet hopped ale tasting!  We’ll have a selection of three great seasonal / limited release brews that all focus on one important ingredient – hops.  Wet hopped ales feature hops that have been picked off the bine and added to the brew kettle within 24 hours without drying the hops.  The goal is to keep as many of the oils and as much of the hop flavor as intact as possible.

This week brought us several special releases from Stone Brewing Co just in time for the cold weather.  Their newest twist on their Smoked Porter features chocolate and orange peel for a semisweet, citrus nuanced porter reminiscent of a chocolate orange ball.  Stone‘s Lukcy Basartd has also joined our shelves for the first time.  This special “Basartd” is a blend of their famous Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard, and Oaked Arrogant Bastard.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our saison tasting this past Thursday!  This quickly growing style provides a lot of freedom for brewers to experiment.  The biggest surprise of the evening was Stillwater‘s dark saison, A Saison Darkly.  Roasted malts along with Rose Hips, Hibiscus, and Schisandra berries gave it qualities closer to a spiced stout.

Join us this upcoming Thursday, November 13th, from 5-7 PM for a No Shave November / Movember tasting!  Since both of these great causes are going on this month, we wanted to help bring some awareness to them.  Join us as we taste a selection of brews all picked for the glorious facial hair on each label.  If you’d like to learn more about either cause, please visit their websites at http://www.no-shave.org/and http://us.movember.com/ – both were created to help raise awareness for men’s health.

This week brought the arrival of Uinta Brewing, a new brewery for the Upstate to enjoy!  They’ve been brewing in Salt Lake City, Utah since the early 90s.  So far four of their labels have made their way into the Upstate, including two of their organic brews – Baba and Wyld.  Stop in and pick up a few cans and be on the look out for more arrivals from them in the future!

Thanks to everyone who came out for our Halloween tasting this past Thursday!  We hope everyone enjoyed our selection of “ghouls and ghosts” to help get into the holiday mood.  B Nektar‘s Necromangocon was one of the highlights of the evening.  Several people had little to no experience with mead and were surprised at the flavors that were present.

Join us this upcoming Thursday, November 6th, from 5-7 PM for a Saison tasting!  With the recent arrival of Boulevard and their Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, we thought it would be a good time to further explore the style.  These ales highlight the Belgian yeast used for brewing and have a wide variety of possible flavor profiles ranging from peppery to funky and sour.

This week brought us the only South Carolina beer to win a medal at The Great American Beer Festival this year, Holy City‘s Washout Wheat.  This classic Hefeweizen-style Wheat features classic banana and clove notes from the wheat and yeast.  Holy City said they “checked the overdone spice additions” to help create the perfect thirst quencher.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our wheat tasting this past Thursday!  We hope everyone enjoyed just how varied wheat ales can really be.  Our first delivery ofBoulevard also managed to arrive in time for it to be a surprise for everyone.  Despite concern over the appearance of Schofferhofer Grapefruit-Weizen, it was hands down one of the hits of the evening.

Mark your calendars for Friday, December 5th, so you can make early plans for ourRiver Rat tap takeover!  Ever since they opened shop last year, River Rat has been brewing up hit after hit.  We’re still working on the final details of what we’ll have to pour, but this is definitely one event you won’t want to miss.

This week marked the arrival of Kansas City, MO’s Boulevard Brewing Co!  So far, four of their main core line brews and three of their Smokestack labels have hit South Carolina with more to come in the future.  No matter what style of beer you enjoy,Boulevard is sure to have something that you’ll enjoy.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Abbey Ale tasting this past Thursday!  We sampled a few favorite American offerings alongside the classic Rochefort 6 and were very surprised at the outcome.  River Rat Brewing out of Columbia, SC had one of the most popular of the evening thanks to its well balanced sweetness.

Join us this upcoming Thursday, October 23rd, from 5-7 PM for a tasting featuring Wheat ales / Hefeweizens.  We’ll have a selection of both American and German Wheats including Schofferhofer Grapefruit Weizen.  Drop in any time during the two hour window and get a taste of some great brews for any time of the year.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our Porter tasting this past Thursday!  We hope people had fun exploring some new options for the upcoming fall and winter weather.  Sierra Nevada‘s Porter tends to get overlooked compared to their other labels but gained quite a few new fans that evening.

Join us this upcoming Thursday, October 16th, from 5-7 PM for a Belgian-style Abbey Ale / Dubbel tasting!  Dubbels were originally called abbey ales since they were brewed at abbeys for consumption by the monks.  This rich malty style features a light sweetness from the Belgian candy sugar that is used in brewing.

This week brought us a very special fan favorite in a new larger bottle – Lagunitas Sucks!  If you’re a hop head and haven’t experienced Sucks then you’re missing out.  Lagunitas originally released it as a replacement for their Brown Shugga after running out of the capacity to brew it that year.  This “joyously dry-hopped” treat has the huge aroma and resinous hop finish to please any IPA fan.
